Aluminum also provides an important advantage for equipment designed to spend its service life outdoors: natural corrosion resistance. Unlike carbon steel, aluminum does not rust. If the surface of a steel pedestal becomes exposed due to a scratch, chip or other damage to its protective coating, the underlying steel can become vulnerable to rust and corrosion. Aluminum does not carry that same risk.
For EV charging infrastructure exposed to rain, snow, humidity, road salt and changing temperatures, starting with a naturally corrosion-resistant material provides an added layer of long-term durability.
